Day 1 – Arrival + Sigiriya

Arrival – Airport pickup
Travel to Sigiriya

Main Attraction:

  • Sigiriya Rock Fortress – A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this massive rock rises nearly 200 meters. Climb to the top to see ancient frescoes, the Mirror Wall, and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding jungle. Built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century.

Day 2 – Anuradhapura

Travel to Anuradhapura

Main Attractions:

  • Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi – A sacred fig tree grown from the original Bodhi Tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. It is over 2,000 years old.

  • Ruwanwelisaya Stupa – A large white stupa built in 140 B.C., one of the most venerated Buddhist monuments in Sri Lanka.

  • Thuparamaya – The first stupa built in Sri Lanka after Buddhism was introduced.

  • Abhayagiriya & Jetavanaramaya – Two massive stupas from ancient times, part of large monastic complexes.

  • Isurumuniya Temple – Famous for its stone carvings like the “Isurumuniya Lovers” and its tranquil setting near a pond.

Day 3 – Polonnaruwa

Travel to Polonnaruwa

Main Attractions:

  • Gal Vihara – A group of impressive rock-carved Buddha statues, including a reclining Buddha, all from a single granite rock.

  • Vatadage – A circular shrine that once housed a sacred relic. Features beautiful stone carvings and guardstones.

  • Lankatilaka Temple – A towering image house with a standing Buddha statue, partially ruined but majestic.

  • Rankot Vihara – The tallest stupa in Polonnaruwa, built in classic Anuradhapura style.

  • Parakrama Samudra – An enormous man-made reservoir built by King Parakramabahu. Still in use today.

Day 4 – Kandy

Travel to Kandy

Main Attractions:

  • Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic – The most sacred Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka, believed to house the tooth of the Buddha. A major pilgrimage site.

  • Kandyan Cultural Dance Show – A colorful cultural show featuring traditional drumming, mask dances, fire walking, and more.

  • Kandy Lake – A peaceful lake built by the last king of Kandy. Great for a scenic walk.

Overnight: Kandy

 

Day 5 – Kandy to Ella (Scenic Hill Country)

Travel to Ella (can take the famous train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Ella)

En Route:

  • Tea Plantations – Visit a tea estate to learn about Sri Lanka’s world-famous Ceylon tea and enjoy a tasting.

  • Ramboda or Ravana Falls – Scenic waterfalls along the way; great for a short stop and photos.

In Ella:

  • Little Adam’s Peak – A relatively easy hike offering panoramic views of Ella Gap and the surrounding mountains.

  • Nine Arches Bridge – An iconic colonial-era railway bridge surrounded by lush greenery. A must-visit photo spot.

Day 6 – Yala National Park Safari

Travel to Yala

Main Attraction:

  • Yala Safari – The most visited wildlife park in Sri Lanka, known for its population of leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and many bird species. Best explored on an early morning or evening jeep safari.

Overnight: Yala or nearby

 

Day 7 – Mirissa & Galle (Beach and Colonial Town)

Travel to Mirissa

Activities:

  • Whale Watching – Go on a boat tour to spot blue whales and dolphins (best from November to April).

  • Beach Relaxation & Fisherman Stick Watching – Spend time on the beach, swim, surf, unwind, and witness the iconic stilt fishermen in action along the coast.
